Sew & Tell - Little Saho's Backpack

f0194450_7553828.jpgYufu made this adorable backpack for her 3 years old, Saho. It is as tiny as her little girl and heavily loaded with mom's love. The organic red canvas is well matched with the apples and dot. The flap is backed with the apple print too. Saho won't go anywhere without it. I wouldn't either...
Thank you Yufu and Little Saho!

Red Handkerchief Girl

f0194450_7371649.jpgA little girl's top made of the red hanky girl print from Japan...just too cute to resist this print. For 2-3 years old, you just need a half yard of the red hanky girl and just a fat quarter of the red dot for the sleeves. Happy Sewing!

While I Wait for a Cable Guy...

f0194450_846096.jpgI've been wasting such a beautiful MLK Day. It's almost 5pm, and I've been waiting for a cable guy since noon. He was supposed to be here by 4pm. The cable company answered to tell me the guy might be here shortly or by 7pm...how typical is this?

Did the wash...

f0194450_8442940.jpgBut he is still not here...I'm supposed to be watching the Inauguration on a crispy clear screen tomorrow...he'd better be here tonight.

The Cleaning Day Continues...

f0194450_10132064.jpgNext was the dining room...This room is the only one where I can make as girly as I want without any guilt (it's funny, but I feel sort of guilty when I put too much pink in the place)...I cut out the pink fabric (Fresh Poppies from Midwestern Modern) before the holidays, but never finished. I took it out again and as my cleaning mood continued, I was fast finishing it. We took an evening walk and got a cafe curtain rod from our neighborhood hardware store. Now the clutter is behind the curtain. Yay!

A Cleaning Day

f0194450_7303786.jpgYesterday was a gorgeous day, over 70 degrees in January, yes it was my day off...I drove my boy to school and did grocery and when I came back, one of the outlets was finally repaired. So it was time to clean up...I tried to move the furniture around since everything was pushed to the other side of the wall. I tried everything I could, but at the end I ended up with the same layout...just moved the tv to the corner so it reaches the repaired outlet without an extension cord. The chair is now sitting in front of the bay window. I prefer the chair in the old position, but it will stay this way until we find a tv stand. I sat there with my tea and enjoyed a little break in the afternoon light. Loved it...

My First Project in 2009

f0194450_14424093.jpgSo it's my turn...my new camera arrived last week, another Canon. It's much smaller and skinnier than my 7 year-old one. So here is my new camera case...a left over piece from my tote was just enough for this small project. I quilted it and bound with brown canvas. It's as cute as my new tiny camera...

Sew & Tell - Jennifer's Wall Hanging Quilt

f0194450_1443753.jpgJennifer and her pal Jake stopped by Saturday and showed me this adorable quilt. It's a wall hanging size, and it stays that way...it is a perfect size for a bath mat, but who wants step on those cute birdies...
f0194450_145171.jpgSee the detail...on the white fabric she hand stitched the swirl pattern, wow...

Sew & Tell - Takako's Shoe Bag

f0194450_1159868.jpgTakako made this shoe bag for her nephew who lives in Japan. She couldn't resist this airplane print because her nephew is crazy about the planes. Imagine how crazy he goes when he receive it in the mail...Thank you Takako!

FYI - the Japanese preschool freshmen are required to bring a lot of things (preferably handmade) when they first start school ...a handkerchief, a lunch bag, a drawstring pouch for a tooth brush and cup, a bag for pajamas and blanket (they put pjs on for nap), and a shoe bag for their indoor shoes (they switch shoes when they go inside the building). This is why there are so many sewing books available for these specific items.
